Osakioduwa Said About Big Brother Africa.
Big Brother Hotshots gets underway
in a matter of days and IK
Osakioduwa is set to host Africa's
biggest reality show for the sixth time in a row.
IK has won the hearts of many fans across Africa
for his ability to speak openly and directly with
housemates and allow them to be at ease about
their most vulnerable moments. Asuquo Eton met up
with IK, who revealed what viewers can expect from
the new season and how he feels about hosting this
year's edition.
When you hear Big Brother what comes to
mind?
IK: Well the first thing is the word "dedication". You
have to understand that I don't see the show how
everyone else sees it. To me it's more than just a
source of entertainment. I have the rare privilege of
seeing the team behind the scenes that run the
show I've got to tell you, the amount of dedication it
takes to run the Big Brother is second to no other
show I know.
What's the one thing you love about Big Brother?
The difference in perspective it creates. It gives you
a window into the lives of other Africans and how
they live life. I'm always shocked along the way by
something someone will say or do because I may
think a totally different way from them due to our
different backgrounds. So if there's one thing I love
about the show it's how it teaches you to be tolerant
of all people.
What advice do you have for this year's contestants?
The same advice I give to ask the contestants every
year. Try your best to be yourself. That way, people
get to know who you are and can make a decent
choice whether to vote for you or not. But if you put
up an act, you might not be able to sustain it until
the end of the show and the minute you start to
change you'll confuse whatever fans you may
already have gathered. It's just safest to be
yourself.
You're back for the sixth time as host of this year's edition, how does that feel? and what should we
expect?
I always view it as a compliment when I'm asked to
do the show again. It's like someone is saying they
are proud of the work I did the last time. So I'm
always really pleased to be asked to do the show.
And since every show is different I'm always super
exited to discover what we'll get up to as the show
unfolds.
What has Biggie got up his sleeve this year, you know?
I think it's safe to say that no matter what Biggie is
planning we can expect a lot of drama. The house is
always full of drama.
Is Big Brother a guy or a girl?
Seeing as I've never seen Biggie (even though he
speaks to me on the show) I can't really answer
that question authoritatively. But I always think of a
Biggie as "Sexless". I simply picture Biggie as The
Boss. You know his word is law in the house.
Have you ever met Big Brother?
No. Not physically
What are your expectations for this year's Big
Brother Hotshots edition?
In all honesty, I never know what to expect until I
meet the Housemates. They are the ones that bring
life to Biggie's ideas and concepts. So I guess I'm
just kinda excited and waiting with baited breath.
How does it feel being the one to announce
evictions to the housemates?
Well, it's always a difficult thing to do because
you've come to like these people. You've spent so
much time watching them that you feel kinda
connected to them. Like we were friends from
before the house. And who wants to be the one to
tell a friend bad news? But hey it's part of the show
and it's part of my job.
Which year's Big Brother stands out the most to
you?
The show has progressively gotten better over the
years, and each year has exceeded my
expectations. So even though I see each edition
differently and can hardly compare them, I think
each new edition outdoes the previous ones. And
even the numbers support that notion. Each year the
social media interaction about the show exceeds
the last year's records.
Do you think Big Brother participants have better
opportunities after their stay in the house?
I certainly think it opens up a world of possibilities to
them. Especially if they are interested in a media
career. If you look at the lives of some past
housemates, it also supports the theory. Nic hosts
Mashariki Mix , Gaetano got a job on several radio
stations and landed several acting gigs, Uti hosts
Jara , Vimbai hosts Star Gist etc. The list goes on.
The truth is that once you've been on the show,
people all over Africa are more welcoming to you.
Apart from being the host of Big Brother, what other
projects are you currently working on?
Well apart from Big Brother I also keep a radio job
where I work on the radio four times a week. This
year I also ventured into acting. I played lead in a
TV series and I have acted in two other movies. I'm
going to do even more acting in the near future. I
also have plans for some more TV show content.

Just watch this space.
Big Brother Hotshots kicks off on Sunday, 7
September at 19:00 CAT and run 24/7 on DStv
channels 197 and 198.

Etisalat Cliqfest
Etisalat’s pact with the Nigerian youths came to the fore
when it took its youth empowerment programme, Cliqfest,
to Delta State University, (DELSU), Abraka last weekend,
for the second time. This time a 100-Level student of the
Industrial Chemistry Department, Prince McCarthy,
emerged the latest winner of the star prize of a brand new
Hyundai i10 after taking part in the raffle draw.
Head, Youth Segment, Etisalat Nigeria, Elvis Daniel noted
that the company is bringing Cliqfest to DELSU for the
second time in about three years due to the success
recorded at the first outing. He noted that the students of
the institution were passionate about the event and
displayed great knowledge of the EasyCliq package.
“What we set out to achieve at each school we visit is to
engage the students in activities that would develop them
intellectually, physically and socially. Etisalat is equipping
Nigerian youths with the requisite knowledge and skills to
excel in every area of their lives after school.” He said.
The two-day programme recorded a large turn-out of
students who came to participate in the different activities
similar to previous campuses. A motivational seminar,
novelty match, concert, comedy, dance competition and
raffle draws were the memorable moments experienced
by the students.
Day one of the programme kicked off with the seminar
facilitated by motivational speaker, Niyi Adesanya tagged
‘Success Activation’. The Students Union Government
(SUG) President, Obaro Ohwojero speaking after the
seminar expressed his gratitude to Etisalat for bringing
Cliqfest to his school for once again.
Despite the intermittent downpour on day two, the
students trooped out en masse for a novelty football
match followed by a concert with headlining acts like
Terry G, Solid star and Nigerian Idol season 4 winner,
Evelle. Raffle draws were held and prizes given out,
including mobile devices, laptops, Etisalat branded t-
shirts, cash prizes and the aforementioned star prize of a
car.

customer’s sexual escapade
Three hotel attendants, who allegedly
recorded a customer’s sexual affair and demanded
a ransom of N10 million, were on Thursday charged
before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The employees had used the hotel’s CCTV to record
the guest’s sexual exploit with his girlfriend.
The accused: Sunday Okon, 23; Rita Emmanuel, 28;
and Goodness Akpan, 24, whose addresses are
unknown, are facing a four-count charge of fraud,
demanding property with menace, conspiracy and
indecent practices.
Prosecutor Uche Simon told the court that the
accused had on Aug. 13 at a hotel in Ogudu area of
Lagos conspired to record a guest while sleeping
with his girlfriend.
According to him, the accused produced a VCD on it
which they circulated to residents of the area.
He alleged that they also demanded a N10 million
ransom and threatened to post it on the facebook if
the man failed to part with the money.
“The accused actually posted it on the facebook
between Aug. 13 and 23.’’
Simon said the offences contravened Sections 136,
166 (d), 299 and 409 of Criminal Law of Lagos State,
2011.
The accused may be sentenced to a minimum of
three years each on conviction.
The three men pleaded not guilty and were granted
bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties
each in like sum.
NAN also reports that the three attendants were
taken to Kirikiri Prisons pending the fulfillment of
their bail conditions.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. J. Awope, adjourned
the case to Sept. 19 for mention. (NAN)

Tomorrow and the whole of this weekend will witness
the funeral obsequies of a great Nigerian, an
amazon and uncommon public servant, whose
exploits in the past fourteen years were unlike any
other ever witnessed in our shores. Professor
Dorothy Nkem Akunyili, within this span of time,
became a household name not only in Nigeria but
also in the wider world where her war against fake
food and drugs was acclaimed, with many awards
and honours. Even before she was appointed as
the Director
General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs
Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Akunyili, a
pharmacist and academic, made the news when
she returned unspent funds to the defunct
Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), where she served as
the South East Zonal Secretary. On assumption of
office at NAFDAC, Akunyili confronted the
entrenched mafia of fake drug importers and
miraculously escaped assassination on two
occasions. Her eight-year tenure in the Agency
made Nigeria a reference point in the global war
against fake drugs, for which she missed being
nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize very
narrowly in 2007.
When she was appointed Minister for Information
and National Orientation, Dora Akunyili launched a
campaign to rebrand Nigeria and Nigerians and
soldiered on with it even in the face of fierce
criticisms. It is to her credit that Nigeria is now
sloganeered as “Good People, Great Nation”.
One of the most profound contributions of this
great
woman was her brave clamour for the right things
to be done when a pall of secrecy was cast over
the
true situation of the health of former President
Umaru Yar’ Adua. She insisted on full disclosure,
and courted the displeasure of Yar’ Adua’s inner
cabinet. She was one of those whose actions
moved the hands of the establishment to allow
then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan assume
full power and save the nation from an impasse
that
could have triggered another military intervention.
Even when she was already ill, Dora Akunyili still
answered the call to serve Nigeria as a Delegate
to the defunct National Conference, until she had to
be
flown abroad for medical attention where she gave
up.
In her 59 years of action-packed life of service
and exemplary leadership, Dora Akunyili
demonstrated
great leadership skills and showed that women,
when given towering challenges, have the
capacity
to produce results. She was very visible and
audible, and left bold footprints of achievement
wherever she went.
As the nation joins her family, friends and
associates to mourn this woman of substance, we
join in celebrating her and holding her up as a
shining example, especially for the women and
youth, with the lesson that gender is never a
barrier
to greatness.
We pray for her eternal rest in the Lord.

Dirty by Megan Hart – A rich, dominant
business man and an unassuming,
submissive woman… Sound familiar? This is
vulgar, intelligent prose and a heart-
wrenching romance all wrapped up in one.
2. Willing Victim by Cara McKenna- This story is brusque and real and explores some of the darker sides of sexual fantasy, so proceed with caution.
3. Deep Desires by Charlotte Stein – A tale of two damaged undesirables who want everything from each other, first from a distance, and then from much closer. This novel is full of heartache and lust. Truly raw and lovely.
4. Crooked Hearts by Patricia Gaffney – For those of you not into the erotic, this historical romance is sinful in a different way. The hero and heroine are both con artists. She’s pretending to be a nun raising
money for kids. He’s masquerading as a blind man and is a coward around knife-wielding villains. It’s not raunchy, precisely;
it’s just wrong, wrong, wrong and so
perfectly right.
5. Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha –A broken down society, a sweet, sudden attraction, and my
favorite treat of all: a place where women are admired for deep, dark sexuality as much as the men are.
6. The Leopard Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt – If
you’re a reader of traditional historical romance, this book will be a shocker, because it’s a relationship you don’t normally see: a love affair between a woman of nobility and her male servant. He’s not masquerading as a servant. He’s not the secret bastard of a duke. He’s her land steward, and every stolen moment feels honest and forbidden.
7. Theory of Attraction by Delphine Dryden –The heroine is a computer
programmer and the hero is an
astrophysicist with no social skills. Kink mixed with Minecraft jokes. It’s pure, raunchy fun.
8. Laid Bare by Lauren Dane – A hot
romance between reunited lovers that later evolves into a loving ménage. This is emotional, sweet kink even before the hero’s
best friend enters the picture. I loved the complexities the characters navigate to find their happy ending.
9. Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione – It’s a fascinating, sexy
story about a demon-slayer and the
delicious demon she falls in lust with. Larissa Ione’s writing is sensual action adventure,
and I can never get enough.
10. Natural Law by Joey W. Hill – The hero is a big, strong cop who dominates his world in every way, but he’s the sexual submissive in this story. The reader gets to be the voyeur in this delicious exploration of his heart and body.

Ambassador in UNILORIN
A student of the Department of Pharmacy,
University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) , Itodo Ene
Patience, has been chosen as Google
Student Ambassador (GSA) for the
2014/2015 academic session.
Miss Itodo, who is among selected students
from various universities and tertiary
education institutions across Africa, takes
over from Wale Bakare, a newly graduated
student of the Department of Zoology, who
was the University’s Google Ambassador for
the 2013/2014 academic session.
An electronic mail conveying the news of the
award to Miss Itodo, a copy of which was
made available to Unilorin Bulletin, indicated
that the student would receive a mandatory
three-day training in Accra, Ghana, during
which she would be exposed to what it takes
to be a Google Student Ambassador on
campus
Miss Itodo’s selection as a Google
Ambassador would be of immense benefit to
the University and its community especially
on technological awareness and training of
students in the institution.
Google Student Ambassadors normally
undergo training on how to use the latest
Fabolous, Wale And More Unite For
Michael Brown Tribute Song ‘Don’t
Shoot’
Many people, including some celebrities, have
spoken up in the aftermath of the shooting of
Michael Brown by a police officer in Ferguson,
Missouri. Chief among those are many members of
the hip-hop community, including J. Cole, T.I. ,
Talib Kweli , and Killer Mike .
On Wednesday (August 27), some of rap’s biggest
stars united to pay tribute to the late teen on a new
song, “Don’t Shoot.”
“Time to take a stand and save our future/ Like we
all got shot, we all got shot/ Throwing up our
hands, don’t let ‘em shoot us,” the chorus rings
out.
From there, we get verses that mix anger, sadness
and critique from Game, Rick Ross , 2 Chainz,
Diddy, Fabolous , Wale, Swizz Beatz, Yo Gotti,
Curren$y , Problem , King Pharaoh and TGT, as well
as an intro from DJ Khaled .
“I seen Cole out there/ Felt I should go out there/
They left that boy four hours in the cold out there/
They killin’ teens/ They killin’ dreams,” Game
laments on his opening verse.
“The issues in Ferguson really hit home for me
and I feel compelled to use my musical platform to
address this,” the Compton rapper told Rolling
Stone. “I am a black man with kids of my own that I
love more than anything and I cannot fathom a
horrific tragedy like Michael Brown’s happening to
them. This possibility has shaken me to my core.
That is why this song must be made and why it
was so easy for so many of my friends to come
together and unite against the injustice. I managed
to get everyone on board fairly easy, simply
because we have the hearts. We care and are
inclined to take a positive approach to resolving an
issue that has existed since the beginning of
mankind and that is racism and hatred towards
one another as human beings.”
Fabolous’ verse invokes another recent issue
that’s been getting headlines: “I seen a lotta ice
water tossed, and I know it’s for a cause/ My only
question is: What we doin’ for the loss?” the
Brooklyn rapper questions the recent ice bucket
challenge craze in his verse, later adding, “Shot
down, with his hands up/ That’s what occurred?/
Man, that sound absurd/ Matter of fact, to me, that
sound like murder.”
Listen to the six-minute tribute above, and you can
also purchase it on iTunes . The proceeds from the
sales will go towards the Michael Brown Memorial
Fund.

Blatter for the leadership of Fifa.
The 59-year-old Frenchman had considered
running as a candidate in next year's presidential
But he told a meeting of 54 European football
associations in Monte Carlo on Thursday that he
wants to concentrate on leading Uefa instead.
Platini previously called for a "breath of fresh air" at
Niger State
The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC)
has discovered about 281 fake corps
members at the Niger state orientation camp
during screening.
The state coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Steven
Ehoda-adi, who made this disclosure said
that the fake corpers have been sent out of
the camp after failing to present their call-up
letters.
Ehoda-adi said shortly after the closing
ceremony of the 2014 Batch B orientation
exercise in Paiko that those affected had
nothing to show as having qualified for
admission into the camp.
According to him, some of them gave the
excuse of being attacked by armed robbers
on their way thereby losing their call up
letters, others claimed to have misplaced
them while some only presented photocopies
of the letters which he said is not acceptable.
Declaring the orientation camp closed,
Governor Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu said
despite the insecurity in the country
occasioned by the activities of the Boko
Haram, the unity of the country is not
negotiable.

retirement
Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso
has announced his retirement from international
football.
“I want to announce that my time with the Spanish
national team has come to an end,” he said in a
statement.
“The hardest thing is knowing when to say goodbye,
and after thinking about it, I think that my time with
the national team has come to an end.”
The 32-year-old was a key member of the Spanish
sides that have won the past two European
Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as their
first World Cup in 2010.
“It has been a glorious period with the Spanish team
that started more than 11 years ago.
“I have formed part of an historical generation that
has fulfilled the dreams of millions of fans, achieving
something as unique as winning a World Cup and
two European Championships in a row.”
However, Alonso’s final international tournament
ended in huge disappointment as the holders
crashed out of the World Cup in Brazil after just two
games following defeats to the Netherlands and
Chile in the group stage.
Alonso scored 16 goals in 114 international
appearances and joins Xavi Hernandez in
announcing his international retirement, heralding
the end of an era for Spanish football.
“It is very difficult to improve on what he has done,”
added Spain coach Vicente del Bosque.
“He leaves a fantastic legacy along with his
teammates. He has been a great professional.”
Del Bosque will announce his squad for next
months’ friendly away to France and Spain’s first
Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia on Friday.

Douglas Pereira from Sao Paulo.
The Blaugrana have announced that the right-back
will arrive in Catalunya before the end of the week
to undergo a medical and then sign a five-year
contract with the club
Barcelona have agreed a transfer fee with Sao
Paulo for Douglas that could rise to €5.5 million.
The Brazilian club announced last week that the
right-back was bound for Camp Nou and the
Blaugrana have now confirmed the 24-year-old's
imminent arrival in Catalunya.
"FC Barcelona and Sao Paulo FC have reached an
agreement in principle for the transfer of the player
Douglas Pereira," read a statement on the Liga
side's official website.
"The cost of operation is €4 million plus €1.5m in
variables that are dependent upon games played.
"Douglas will travel to Barcelona later this week to
undergo a medical. He will sign a contract with FC
Barcelona for the next five seasons."
Douglas, who has never been capped at senior lev
by Brazil, becomes Barca's third high-profile
defensive acquisition of the summer, with Thomas
Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu already having
arrived at Camp Nou from Arsenal and Valencia,
respectively.

in horror as Manchester United were dumped out
of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, losing
4-0 to League One outfit MK Dons.
Will Grigg and Benik Afobe scored two goals apiec
as a young Red Devils side were humbled in the
League Cup second round to leave the Dutchman
still without a victory
Louis van Gaal is still yet to pick up a win as
Manchester United boss after a shock 4-0 defeat t
MK Dons in the League Cup second round.
Van Gaal picked a mixture of inexperienced young
players and those on the fringes of his squad,
including Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Shinji
Kagawa and Anderson.
But a Jonny Evans error allowed Will Grigg to open
the scoring in the first half, sweeping the ball past
David de Gea from close range.
With United chasing an equaliser after the interval,
Grigg made it 2-0 with a clever chested finish from
an excellent Ben Reeves cross and it was Arsenal
loanee Benik Afobe who came off the bench to
secure the victory with two goals to mark an
historic night for the home side.
The last time that United entered the competition at
this phase, in 1995, they suffered the ignominy of
losing a two-legged tie 4-3 to York City - including
a 3-0 reverse at Old Trafford - and memories of
such embarrassment were brought back to the for
as MK Dons outworked and, most damningly, out-
passed their illustrious opponents to secure a
famous triumph.
A United team loaded with players determined to
catch Van Gaal's eye started confidently as Danny
Welbeck, in particular, caused problems. The
visitors' endeavour almost brought immediate
reward, Nick Powell curling just over the crossbar.
MK Dons came back into the game, although their
possession was not producing opportunities.
However, Karl Robinson's men were gifted an
opener in the 25th minute by an Evans howler. The
centre-back's pass from defence was intercepted
by Reeves, whose simple ball left Grigg with the
easiest of taps-in.
That seemed to knock the wind out of United's sail
although Powell threatened to reinvigorate his side
when firing just wide from range with the outside of
his foot.
Things almost went from bad to worse after the
interval, when MK Dons were denied a penalty
when Evans appeared to have handled in the area,
but United could not take advantage of that break,
Welbeck curling a powerful effort just wide of the
post.
And their misery was compounded in the 63rd
minute, Reeves and Grigg combining again in a fine
move that ended with the latter cleverly chesting
home his team-mate's perfect left-wing cross.
Any thoughts of a United revival were snuffed out
by Grigg's replacement, Afobe, who then slid home
easily after being picked out by Danny Green.
James Wilson almost levelled, United's first shot on
target coming in the 72nd minute when David Marti
produced a superb one-handed save to deny the
highly rated striker's 20-yard strike.
Adnan Januzaj rattled the post but, if anything, Van
Gaal's side were lucky not to lose by more with
David de Gea forced to turn away Dean Lewington'
cross.
Relief at that quickly turned to further despair,
however, as Afobe bundled his way into the box an
volleyed home to create a scarcely believable
scoreline.
Hope continued to come in the shape of Wilson,
whose header again forced Martin into an excellent
till Oct 13
The Federal Government on Tuesday
directed that all public and private primary and
secondary schools should remain closed till Oct. 13.
The Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau,
gave the directive when he briefed newsmen after a
meeting with Commissioners for Education in Abuja.
“The minister and all commissioners met today,
Aug. 26, to discuss issues related to the reopening
of schools for the new academic year vis-à-vis the
Ebola epidemic issue.
“At the end of the meeting, the following decisions
were arrived at as preventive measures to ensure
the safety and wellbeing of all students in our
schools throughout the federation.
“All primary and secondary schools both public and
private are to remain closed until Monday, Oct. 13,
2014, which is the new resumption date for all
schools throughout the federation.
“This is to ensure that adequate measures are put
in place before the students report back to school,’’
Shekarau said.
Shekarau said the meeting also agreed that all
Ministries of Education should immediately organise
training for at least two staff in each public and
private school.
He said schools must ensure that the training was
given by appropriate health personnel on how to
handle any suspected case of Ebola Virus Disease
(EVD).
He said the training of such staff must be concluded
not later than Sept. 15.
The minister also directed all the state ministries to
establish a Working and Monitoring Team and also
appoint a designated Desk Officer on Ebola.
Shekarau said the officers must report on daily
basis to the commissioners on situation in the
schools not later than Sept. 1.
He also ordered the immediate suspension of
ongoing summer classes conducted by some
private schools.
According to him, all private primary and secondary
schools must comply with the directives, which also
apply to Federal Government Colleges.
He, therefore, urged state governments to support
their ministries with all necessary funds to ensure
effective implementation of these measures.
Shekarau said that all tertiary institutions were
advised to suspend exchange of staff and students’
programmes, visits, and major international
seminars and workshops until further notice.
“They are to monitor movements of foreign students
in their campuses and liaise with appropriate
government health institutions to organise and
ensure effective sensitisation programme for all
their staff,’’ he said.
The minister said that he would be meeting again
with all the commissioners on Sept. 23, to review
the situation in all states.
He said that appropriate sanctions would be taken
against any defaulter of the directives. (NAN)
