Beyoncé tops nominations for the 2014
“MTV Video Music Awards” via an innovative first-
of-its-kind social media rollout on Snapchat. Global
superstar Beyoncé , who surprised and delighted
fans worldwide with the revolutionary release of her
self-titled, critically acclaimed visual album earlier
this year, leads the pack with an astounding eight
nominations including “ Video of the Year ”, “Best
Female” and “Best Choreography. ”
Taking place at The Forum in Inglewood, California Today the “2014 MTV Video Music
Awards” will air live on MTV across Africa on
Monday 25 August at 02:00 CAT (pre-show) and
03:00 CAT (premiere). The primetime premiere will
take place simultaneously on MTV and MTV Base
(DStv Channel 322)) on Monday 25 August at 20:00
CAT (pre-show) and 21:00 CAT (main show).
Eminem and Australian rapper Iggy Azalea received
an impressive seven nominations each. Eminem
scores multiple nods for categories including “Best
Hip-Hop,” “Best Male” and “Best Collaboration”
while previous “MTV Artist to Watch” nominee Iggy
Azalea finds herself vying for some of the top
awards including “Video of the Year,” “Best Female”
and “Best Pop.” VMA categories, including “Video of the Year,”

Battling it out for the highly coveted “Video of the
Year” are Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX with their 90’s
throwback “Clueless” homage “Fancy”, Beyoncé ft.
JAY Z’s dark and sensuous “Drunk in Love”, the
catchy pop phenomenon “Happy” by Pharrell
Williams, Sia’s mysterious and faceless
“Chandelier” and the video that spawned a million
memes, Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”.
Following last year’s groundbreaking stop-motion
video nominations announcement via MTV's
Instagram and Vine accounts, MTV notched yet
another first by revealing this year's nominations
via MTV's Snapchat account. Earlier this morning,
the nominations were revealed exclusively via MTV
snaps featuring VMA nominees Austin Mahone and
5th Harmony, emerging artist Becky G, and MTV
talent including “Teen Wolf's” Tyler Posey, Jillian
Rose Reed from “Awkward”, “Girl Code's” Carly
Aquilino and Charlamagne Tha God from “Guy
Code”.
Beginning today, fans can vote in VMA categories,
including “Best Hip Hop”, “MTV Clubland”, “Best
Video with a Social Message”, and more by visiting
vma.mtv.com.
Nominees for a new socially voted category, “Best
Lyric Video” will be announced at a later date on
vma.mtv.com.
Usher, Ariana Grande and 5 Seconds of Summer
are confirmed to perform at the 2014 MTV Video
Music Awards, with additional talent being
announced at a later date.
